Strapping Online Shop: Order Strapping Band & Accessories

Strapping technology is always used when you have heavier goods to ship. Above all, strapping is not just about closing packages, but also about reinforcing and bundling them. For example, if you ship a pallet, you must fix and secure it with the help of suitable strapping.

The choice of the selected strapping band of course always depends on the goods on the one hand, and on the transport situation and the weight of the load on the other. What forces will act on the goods and thus also on the strapping band? Will there be particular pressure? Will the goods be exposed to the weather?

Sandax offers a large selection of strapping products

At Sandax, you have a large choice of strapping bands. You can choose between textile strapping on the one hand and PET strapping or PP strapping on the other. In addition to the strapping bands themselves, there are also the various closures with which you can secure the strapping.

Furthermore, we offer strapping tools, because after all, strapping is often not done manually. It has to withstand certain industrial standards, and that can only be managed if you use a suitable machine for it. In addition, you can obtain dispenser carts from us, with the help of which you can easily transport different quantities of strapping band on the one hand, but also carry them safely with you on the other. Because when you have the strapping band on the truck, you want it to arrive on the roll. This can only be achieved with the appropriate securing equipment.

What is strapping?

Strapping refers to the wrapping and securing of goods or packages with a special strapping band in order to stabilize them for transport or storage. The goal of strapping is to hold pallets, cardboard boxes, or other goods firmly together, thereby preventing shifting, damage, or the falling apart of the load.

Depending on the requirements, different materials such as PET, PP, PES, or steel bands are used. Strapping ensures maximum safety and efficiency in logistics and is an indispensable part of modern load securing.

The advantages of strapping at a glance:

  • Secure fixation
  • Protection against transport damage
  • Easy handling
  • Versatility
  • Cost-efficiency
  • Material variety
  • Space-saving
  • Preservation of goods quality

Which aspects should you look out for when choosing your strapping?

You must always select strapping bands under certain aspects:

  • the dimensions: In order to order the correct dimensions of your strapping band, you need to know the exact dimensions of your packaged goods. If you oversize the strapping band, it cannot build up any tension and the desired load securing cannot be guaranteed.
  • the tensile strength: During load securing and during transport, you must absolutely be able to ensure that the strapping band does not tear. Because otherwise, the securing of the load is not guaranteed. If you have measured the band correctly and have chosen a high-quality strapping band, like the ones you get at Sandax, you already have a good head start in terms of load securing.
  • the elasticity: This point is a particular challenge. Because on the one hand, the load must actually be secured. On the other hand, the band must also be able to stretch slightly when it comes under load. Here you often hear words like elongation and recovery capacity. Is the strapping band capable of stretching short-term and then returning to its original shape? Especially with the PET strapping bands and the PP strapping bands, you have excellent properties here. This is one of the reasons why steel is hardly used anymore today. Here, the elongation and recovery capacity is close to zero.
  • the joint efficiency: Every chain is only as strong as its weakest link. In strapping, this weakest point is the closure. Because here it is shown how securely the load is actually secured. PP bands are usually closed with a friction weld joint and reach a breaking load of about 60%. With PET bands with a friction weld joint, you even reach 80% and more.
  • the glidability: This factor describes how well it is possible to let the strapping band slide over your packaged goods without damaging them. PP and PET bands again show particularly good properties here.
The choice of the right strapping band depends on weight, transport type, and securing requirements. The following table shows at a glance which material is best suited for which application.

Application / Use Case Recommended Band Reasoning
Light cardboard boxes, packages, bundles PP strapping band Cost-effective, flexible, sufficient for low to medium weights
Medium-weight pallets (e.g., consumer goods) PET strapping band High tensile strength, elastic, shock-absorbing during transport
Heavy pallets, building materials, industry PET or steel PET for dynamic loads, steel for maximum rigidity
Very heavy, rigid loads (steel, wood) Steel band Maximum strength, no elongation, highest securing effect
Export & sea freight PET or steel High tension force, temperature and moisture resistant
Automatic strapping machines PP or PET Machine-compatible, uniform quality, high process reliability
Manual strapping in the warehouse PP or PET Easy to process, low risk of injury

PP strapping band – for light to medium packaging

PP strapping band is ideally suited for cardboard boxes, light pallets, and bundles. It is cost-effective, flexible, and easy to process, but offers only limited tensile strength for heavy loads.

PET strapping band – the strong alternative to steel

PET strapping band combines high tensile strength with elastic recovery capacity. It is ideal for medium to heavy pallets, as it absorbs shocks during transport and holds the load together safely in the long term.

Steel band – maximum safety for heavy loads

Steel band offers the highest strength and virtually no elongation. It is used when extreme loads, rigid goods, or the highest securing requirements exist, e.g., in the steel, wood, or building materials industries.

The individual bands in comparison

At Sandax you can get both plastic straps, i.e., PET or PP bands as well as the textile variant. Each of these solutions brings its own advantages and disadvantages.

  1. Textile strapping: Textile bands are manufactured from polyester fibers. These include Hot Melt strapping, Composite strapping, and PES strapping band. You cannot process this strapping band fully automatically, because you must always apply the closure manually.

Hot Melt strapping band is also known under the name bonded strapping. It consists of glued polyester threads. It is slightly sticky and can be pulled apart in the direction of the threads. Composite strapping is coated with polypropylene, which is why it is not sticky. In return, it cannot be pulled apart as easily as the Hot Melt band.

Textile strapping offers you the advantage that it can be retensioned. This is particularly advantageous if your goods lose volume during storage. Think, for example, of wood bundles or other timber. Here it makes sense that you can manually build up the tension again as soon as your load has lost volume.

  2. Plastic strapping: With PP (Polypropylene) and PET (Polyethylene) strapping bands, you have the advantage that they can be processed fully automatically. The welding can also be done mechanically. PP band offers you a slightly higher elasticity, so that you can strap packages and cardboard boxes very well with it.

PET bands are particularly tear-resistant and resilient, which makes them the perfect strapping solution for heavy loads on pallets. A special role among plastic strappings is played by the pallet band / elastic band. You can use it for internal securing. You do not need any machines or tools for this. Simply pull it over the top layer of the packaged goods and thus establish immediate securing.

What do weather conditions and transport itself have to do with load securing?

Both transport and on-site storage can, depending on where they take place, have a significant impact on your goods. Think, for example, of particular heat or cold. But also think of moisture because it rains. Depending on the packaged goods, it can even happen that your strapping band has to withstand such influences for a longer period of time.

Both static and dynamic loads can ensure that the volume or shape of the packaged goods changes. A static load is, for example, heat, cold, dryness, moisture, or also UV radiation, which can attack the material.

The dynamic loads include pure vibration, as it naturally occurs during transport. As a result, it can happen that natural gaps in a pallet or in the package close. Suddenly the packaged goods have a smaller volume or a different shape. The strapping band must of course be able to withstand these loads.
